About macOS Torrents

I'm an accountant at a small office in Denver, and because I'm the one who doesn't mind reading manuals, I also look after the office Macs. Over the years that has meant installing, updating and occasionally rescuing a lot of software. Before anything goes onto a work machine, I try it on my own iMac first. macOS Torrents grew out of the notes I kept while doing that.

The purpose of the site

The goal is simple: give you the information you need to decide whether a program belongs on your Mac before you install it. Each page lists the current version, the download size, the minimum macOS version and whether the program runs on Apple silicon, Intel or both. Where installation involves an extra step, such as granting a permission in System Settings, the page mentions it.

When a new version comes out, the page is updated. Older versions stay listed when they still serve a purpose. Office Macs are rarely the newest models, and a dependable older build is often the right choice for them.

Sections

The catalog leans toward keeping Macs healthy and productive: Utilities, Mac Cleaners, Antivirus, Data Recovery, Office, PDF and macOS installers. There are also sections for general Mac Apps, VST Plugins and Games.

Accounts

You can read every page without an account. A free account lets you keep favorites, see a notice on the site when a saved program is updated and post comments. Comments are reviewed before they are published, and until then they appear to their author as awaiting moderation. I especially value comments that describe a real situation: which Mac, which macOS version and what happened.

A note of caution, since it comes up often with system tools: back up your Mac before running a cleaner or a recovery program for the first time. It takes a few minutes and can save a great deal of trouble.
