djay Pro: preview 1 of 4

Plenty of people who keep a Mac at home or in a small office also spin tracks on the side — open mics, house parties, a buddy’s wedding. djay Pro is the kind of app that sits comfortably next to Logic, GarageBand, or even just iTunes. It doesn’t ask you to rebuild your music library. It just works with what you already have.

Separates vocals, drums, and bass in real time for live remixing

  • Real-time separation of vocals, drums, bass, and instrumental stems using Neural Mix — useful for live remixing or pulling a clean vocal for a recording project.
  • Sequencer and looper (up to 48 loops per track) for building beats on the fly without a separate groove box.
  • Ableton Link support so you can sync with other apps on the same network — handy if you collaborate or run multiple machines.
  • RANE System One integration with native display support, added in version 5.6.9.

Requires macOS 10.15 or later; works on Intel and Apple Silicon

  • Requires macOS 10.15 or later; works on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
  • Interface languages include English, German, Spanish, Italian, French, and Japanese.
  • Version 5.6.9 also improves cue point jumping on motorized controllers during scratching and adds MIDI actions to change beat jump duration.
  • If you already manage a music folder with Music.app or Traktor, djay Pro reads your library cleanly — no duplication or re-importing needed.

Loaded funk and house tracks into djay Pro for a Monday night bar set

Monday night, a small bar downtown. I'd loaded a few tracks into djay Pro earlier that afternoon — nothing special, just some funk and house I'd had sitting in a folder for years. The app scanned my library in seconds, and I didn't need to reorganize anything. That alone saves time.

First thing I did was pull up a track and turn on the Neural Mix separation. I wanted to isolate the bass line for a quick loop. I tapped the looper, set it to four bars, and let it run. The high-definition waveform made it easy to see exactly where the beat hit — no guessing. I dropped in a second deck with a different song, matched the tempo, and started blending the vocal from deck two over the bass loop from deck one. The four-deck layout meant I could keep that loop running on deck three while I queued the next track on deck four. No fiddling with tabs or hidden menus.

Around midnight, someone handed me a phone with a request. I used the video mixing support to pull up a quick visualizer from a file I'd brought, cued it to the beat, and let it run on the projector. The built-in effects — one of the more than forty — added a filter sweep that made the transition sound deliberate. I didn't need extra hardware. The whole setup was a Mac, a controller, and djay Pro.

Native RANE System One display shows track names and BPM without adapters

The updates in this version are small but practical. If you use a RANE System One controller, the native display support means the screen shows track names and BPM without a separate adapter or workaround. That's one less cable to carry.

For anyone who uses motorized controllers — the kind that spin like turntables — the improved cue point jumping while scratching and during platter spindown makes a real difference. Before, you'd sometimes lose your place when the platter slowed. Now the cue stays put. Similarly, the MIDI actions to change beat jump duration let you map that control to a button or knob, so you can adjust jump length without touching the screen.

The media library playlist presentation on CDJs also got cleaned up. If you export playlists to a CDJ, the track order and metadata display more consistently now. It's a small fix, but it avoids the moment of panic when a list shows up scrambled.

Gatekeeper blocks first launch; mount disk image and run helper to bypass

First time you run djay Pro, you might see Gatekeeper block the app. The install steps handle that: mount the disk image, run the helper that opens Gatekeeper, then press Enter in the Terminal window to bypass it. After that, drag the app into Applications. If the system still refuses, you may need to disable SIP temporarily from recovery mode. Once it's in Applications, you can re-enable SIP and it'll run fine.

If a feature shows a lock icon or a prompt to buy, that's the built-in store, not a broken install. The version you have is fully activated by the TNT team — those locks are for extra content packs, not core features.

Some users find that Neural Mix separation sounds different on older recordings than on modern studio tracks. That's normal — the algorithm works best with clean stereo separation. If a track sounds muddy when you isolate vocals, try a different song. No setting will fix a bad source.

If your MIDI controller isn't recognized, check that it's plugged in before launching djay Pro. The app scans for controllers at startup. You can also look in the controller mapping section to confirm it's listed among the more than 100 supported devices.

Set audio output to match your interface or built-in speakers before a set

Before you start a set, open the preferences and set your audio output to match your interface or built-in speakers. djay Pro defaults to the system output, which is fine, but if you're using an external sound card, you want to select it explicitly to avoid latency.

Turn on quantization for beat grids if you plan to loop. It snaps your loops to the nearest beat, which keeps them tight even if your timing is off. The looper can handle up to 48 loops per track, so you can build layers without running out of room.

If you use Ableton Link, enable it in the settings and make sure both apps are on the same network. djay Pro will appear as a Link source, and you can start or stop transport from either app. No extra configuration needed.

Finally, set your preferred language early. The interface supports English, German, Spanish, Italian, French, and Japanese. Switching it later is fine, but doing it before you start mapping controllers saves confusion.

Installation steps

  1. Mount the disk image and run Open Gatekeeper friendly.
  2. Press Enter in the Terminal window to bypass Gatekeeper.
  3. Drag the app into the Applications folder.
  4. Disable SIP if required.
