Cursor Pro: preview 1 of 7

The pointer highlight in Cursor Pro uses either a circle or a diamond shape — whichever is easier for your audience to follow. Version 2.4 keeps the same core features: a customizable highlight, a screen magnifier, and a global hotkey to toggle it all on or off. The app lives in the macOS menu bar, and you can show it in the Dock, the status bar, or both. Auto-hide behavior keeps it out of the way when you are not moving the mouse, which matters a lot when you are presenting or teaching over screen sharing. Cursor Pro works with any screen-sharing app as long as the whole screen is shared. The magnifier enlarges whatever is under the pointer, so you do not have to lean in to read small text on a large display.

Does not interfere with other screen tools

Does Cursor Pro interfere with other screen tools? I get asked that one a lot. It won't. Cursor Pro is a cursor highlighter and magnifier, not a full-screen capture tool. It works alongside Zoom, Teams, QuickTime screen recording, or whatever else you are sharing through. The highlight and magnifier are strictly about making your pointer easier to follow — they do not grab or alter the video feed. As long as you are sharing the entire screen, your audience sees whatever Cursor Pro draws.

Will the magnifier slow things down? The magnifier redraws a portion of the screen at a higher zoom factor, but it's not doing heavy compositing. Version 2.4 runs on both ARM and Intel Macs with macOS 11 or later, and the app was built for live presentation work — nobody has time for lag while they are teaching. The zoom factor is adjustable, so you can set it to something modest like 1.5x and avoid surprises.

Can I use it on a single-monitor setup? Yes. The whole point is that the highlight and magnifier work on whatever display the cursor is on. If you are on a laptop with one screen, the same hotkey and auto-hide behavior apply. You do not need a second monitor to get value from it.

Software demo with ten remote viewers

Imagine you are running through a software demo for a remote team. Ten people are watching your shared screen. You have Cursor Pro running in the menu bar — it is set to show both in the Dock and the status bar, so you can glance up and confirm it is active.

You launch the app from Launchpad after the usual drag-and-drop install. The settings panel lets you pick a diamond highlight with a soft glow. You set the color to something that stands out against your desktop background — maybe a warm orange. You enable the magnifier at 2x zoom, assign the global hotkey to Command+Shift+H, and turn on auto-hide so the highlight disappears when the mouse is idle.

During the call, you walk through a form in a web browser. Every time you move the mouse, the diamond highlight pulses faintly — the audience can see exactly where the cursor is. When you hover over a small button in the toolbar, you tap the hotkey. The magnifier kicks in, enlarging that button and its label. You click it, hit the hotkey again to dismiss the magnifier, and keep going. The auto-hide means there is no glowing circle sitting in the middle of the screen while you talk through a slide. The whole thing feels invisible to everyone except the person trying to follow your pointer.

At the end, you quit Cursor Pro from the menu bar. The app does not leave anything behind — no background processes, no dock clutter.

Highlight missing on shared screen fix

The highlight does not appear on the shared screen. This usually means you are sharing an application window instead of the whole screen. Cursor Pro draws directly onto the desktop layer. If your screen-sharing app is showing only one window, the highlight is outside that frame. Switch your sharing tool to share the entire display.

The magnifier looks jagged or too large. Check the zoom factor in the settings. A 3x or 4x zoom on a high-resolution display can look pixelated because it is simply scaling what is already there. Dial it back to 1.5x or 2x. The magnifier is meant for reading small type, not for canvas-wide enlargement.

The global hotkey does nothing. First, make sure Cursor Pro is actually running — it is in the menu bar, not opened in a window. Second, check whether another app is using the same shortcut. macOS does not warn you about conflicts. Try a less common combination, like Command+Option+Shift+M, and test it before your session starts.

The cursor highlight stays on screen after I stop moving. Auto-hide is off or set to a longer delay. Open Cursor Pro's settings and confirm auto-hide is enabled. If you need the highlight to disappear the instant the mouse stops, set the delay as short as the app allows — though you can also toggle the whole thing off with the hotkey when you are done moving.

Sarah's projector text readable from front row

Sarah runs a monthly user group meetup. She presents from a 15-inch MacBook connected to a projector that shows the image at 1080p. The projector is big and the text is readable from the front row, but people in the back have trouble seeing where she is pointing. She used to draw red arrows in her slides, which meant editing every deck before the talk.

Now she runs Cursor Pro during the live demo. She picks a circle highlight, bright red, with a small glow. The magnifier is set to 2x and bound to a hotkey she can hit with her left hand while the right hand works the trackpad. During the Q&A, someone asks about a setting in a preferences panel. She navigates to it, taps the hotkey, and the audience sees the exact checkbox magnified on the projector screen. No arrow editing, no guessing where the cursor is — the highlight and magnifier handle it.
