inZOI: visual 1 of 8

inZOI runs on Macs with Apple silicon and macOS Tahoe. The game is a life simulation where you shape a city, build homes, and guide characters called Zois. If you enjoy open-ended creative play — designing characters with more than 250 options, changing weather and streets, or using AI text prompts to generate patterns for clothes and furniture — this will hold your interest. The Zois react based on personality and experience, so you can steer stories without scripting everything.

Who might not enjoy it? If you want a structured, goal-driven game with clear win conditions, inZOI’s sandbox approach may feel loose. The local generative AI adds customization but can behave unpredictably. Also, it currently runs only on Apple silicon, so Intel Macs are out. If you like tweaking cities and characters more than following objectives, you’ll likely find plenty to do.

Ignore the icons over Zois and miss key needs

Starting with inZOI’s early access build, a few patterns trip people up. The biggest is ignoring the icons that appear over Zois. Those small symbols — a thought bubble, a speech mark, a heart — tell you what a Zoi is thinking or about to do. Beginners click them away and miss chances to influence relationships or steer events. Keep an eye on them; they are your main way to react to what the simulation throws at you.

Another mistake is overbuilding on the first day. The city management tools let you change lots, weather, and streets, but it is easy to run out of patience if you try to redesign everything at once. Pick one neighborhood or one block and work there. The simulation keeps running while you build, so Zois will wander into half-finished areas and behave oddly if nothing is there yet.

People also forget that rumors, trends, and diseases are active from the start. If you ignore them, your city can shift in unexpected ways. A trend can spread and alter how Zois dress or act. A rumor can damage a relationship you were building. Check the city events panel every few minutes early on so you know what is happening.

Match the display resolution to your screen first

When you first launch inZOI, the defaults are fine for a quick look, but a few adjustments help in the long run. Open the display settings and check that the resolution matches your screen. The game often picks a lower one on first start. Also, turn off any camera shake effect if you find it distracting during city editing. That setting is in the same panel.

Under the gameplay section, set the simulation speed to something you can watch without rushing. The default can feel fast when you are still learning where everything is. Slowing it down for the first session gives you time to follow a single Zoi and see how personality traits play out.

If you plan to use the generative AI features for patterns or 2D-to-3D conversion, go to the AI options and confirm the local model is active. It should be on by default, but if you skipped the initial setup, it may be disabled. The prompts will not work otherwise.

Spend your first session in character creation with 250+ options

Spend your first session in character creation. The more than 250 options cover hair, skin, body shape, clothing, accessories, and manicure. Move through each category slowly. The UI can feel busy at first, but the controls are consistent: drag sliders for shape, pick swatches for color, and click the preview button to see your Zoi in motion. Facial capture and motion capture support mean you can later import movements, but that is an advanced step for day two or three.

After you place your first Zoi in a lot, do not rush to build a house from scratch. There are pre-made structures you can drop in and then edit. That saves time and lets you see how walls, roofs, stairs, fences, platforms, and gates connect. Once you have a feel for the building tools, you can tear down walls and start over.

Use the in-game camera often. The visual detail from Unreal Engine 5 rewards close-up views. You can see skin texture, fabric patterns you generated with text prompts, and how light changes through windows. That also helps you catch small AI artifacts — stray pattern repeats or odd color shifts — before they show up in a saved game.

Drag a saved image into the pattern AI prompt field

The generative AI for patterns and images works from text prompts, but you can also feed it a saved image file. If you have a fabric swatch or a wallpaper photo on your Mac, drag it into the prompt field. The local model will try to interpret it as a pattern for clothing, decorations, or furniture. It does not always get it right, but it is faster than describing a complex design in words.

The same AI tool can turn 2D models into in-game 3D objects. That is less obvious than the pattern feature. If you have a flat drawing of a chair or a lamp, upload it. The game builds a rough 3D version you can place in a lot. The result is not polished, but it is usable for prototyping a room before you invest time in detailed furniture editing.

Character movements can be created from uploaded videos. That feature is tucked in the motion capture settings. Record a short clip on your phone, transfer it to your Mac, and the game will try to match the movement to your Zoi. It works best with simple actions — a wave, a walk cycle, a nod. Complex choreography confuses the model.
