VocalNet: visual 1 of 1

VocalNet is a voice transformation plugin that uses artificial intelligence to change the timbre of a recorded vocal without needing another performer.

Raises, lowers, or textures a voice in a DAW

The plugin adjusts the character of a voice — raising or lowering it, adding texture, or shifting the overall tone. It is built for quick experimentation inside a DAW workflow, so you can try ideas without bouncing tracks or layering takes. The changes happen locally, so recordings stay on your machine.

Plugin formats and system fit

The Mac installer includes VST3, AU, and AAX formats, which cover Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, and most other DAWs. VocalNet runs on macOS 10.15 or later, works on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, and the interface is in English. It is a focused tool for adding color to a voice track when you want something different from standard pitch or EQ moves.

A producer working on a demo with limited vocal options

You have a singer in the studio for a few hours, and you want to capture a few different textures from the same take without asking them to change their delivery. Instead of layering multiple passes or reaching for a harmonizer, you load VocalNet on the vocal track in your DAW and try a few of the built-in voice profiles. The singer hears the transformed sound in their headphones in real time, so they can adjust their performance to match the effect. By the end of the session, you have a dry take and a separate processed version that sounds like a different character entirely — no need to bring in another vocalist.

Set input level and blend before tweaking

Before you start tweaking, check the input level from your DAW. The plugin responds to the signal it receives, so a clean, consistent level gives you more predictable results. The other thing worth setting early is the blend control if the plugin has one — you can dial in how much of the processed voice mixes with the original. That way you are not committed to a full transformation from the start. It is easier to push the blend further once you hear how the timbre sits in the mix.

Version 1.0.4 stops dropouts in long sessions

  • The developer Session Loops released version 1.0.4 to improve stability during longer sessions. The plugin now handles sustained real-time processing without dropping out as it might have in earlier builds.
  • A few users reported that the plugin window responded slowly when switching presets on older Intel Macs. The latest version tightens that up, though it is still worth giving the interface a moment to refresh after a change.

Fixes a flat vocal take in Logic step by step

I open a Logic project with a vocal track that was recorded yesterday — a verse take that sounds fine but feels a bit flat. I insert VocalNet on the track as an AU plugin. The interface loads with a default voice profile, and I hear the take play back through it immediately. That part is straightforward.

I open the sample browser inside the plugin and import three short voice clips I recorded earlier with a different singer. VocalNet analyzes them and builds a new timbre. I apply that timbre to the track, and the verse suddenly has a fuller, slightly darker character that sits better against the piano part. I save that as a preset.

For the chorus, I want something brighter. I move the blend slider to favor the processed signal, and I tweak the formant shift a little. The chorus vocal cuts through without needing EQ automation. I render the processed track in place and move on to the next section.

The whole process takes about four minutes. I did not bounce any audio, and I did not record another take. The original vocal file stayed untouched on my drive.
