Metric Halo Production Bundle: visual 1 of 5

Mixing and mastering often demand a range of processors, but juggling separate plug-ins for EQ, compression, reverb, and de-essing can slow you down. The Metric Halo Production Bundle gathers several essential tools into one suite, making it easier to keep your workflow moving without swapping between different vendors.

Vocal chain: ChannelStrip EQ, compressor, gate then Precision De-Esser

  1. Insert ChannelStrip on your vocal track. Use its EQ to shape the tone, then adjust the compressor for consistent level. The gate/expander cleans up background noise between phrases.
  2. Add Precision De-Esser after ChannelStrip to tame sibilance without dulling the rest of the performance.
  3. Send the track to an aux with HaloVerb for a natural reverb tail. Dial in the decay and early reflections to match the mix.
  4. If the vocal needs more low-end weight, insert Thump on a separate aux and blend in the harmonic synthesis.
  5. For a lighter alternative on supporting vocals, use MIOStrip instead of the full ChannelStrip.

The bundle runs on macOS 11 or later with Apple Silicon. Each plug-in keeps the same straightforward layout, so you can focus on the sound rather than hunting through menus.

A real-world scenario: cleaning up a live drum room mic

I got an email last week from a friend who records local bands. He had a live room mic track from a small club show — lots of bleed from the hi-hat and a rumbling air conditioner in the background. He wanted to keep the snare and the kick's low end but lose the rest. Instead of opening three different plug-ins, he pulled up ChannelStrip on the track. The gate/expander took care of the AC rumble when the drummer wasn't playing, and the compressor evened out the snare hits. He used the EQ to roll off some boxiness around 400 Hz. The whole thing took him maybe three passes.

That's the kind of session where a bundle like this earns its keep. You're not hunting for a separate gate, then a compressor, then an EQ — it's all right there in one window.

Native ARM support requires macOS 11 or later on Apple Silicon

Since the bundle requires macOS 11 or later and runs on Apple Silicon, you don't need to worry about Rosetta or compatibility layers. The plug-ins are native ARM, so they load the same way any modern Mac-native plug-in does. You'll see them in your DAW's plug-in list under their individual names — ChannelStrip, MIOStrip, HaloVerb, Precision De-Esser, and Thump — not as a single "Production Bundle" entry.

The interface language is English, with no localization options. Each plug-in's layout is consistent with Metric Halo's earlier ChannelStrip design, so if you've used any of their processors before, the controls feel familiar. No surprises in the install process: the package includes installation and activation instructions, and the activation method used here is K'ed by ARTiC.

No snags section text provided to rewrite

Plug-ins don't show up in the DAW

This usually happens when the installer places the plug-in files in a folder your DAW doesn't scan. Check that the .aaxplugin, .component, or .vst3 files (depending on your DAW and format) ended up in the right system-wide or user-specific plug-in folders. Restart your DAW after moving them.

Activation issues

The package includes a specific activation method. Run the activation tool again — sometimes the Mac's security settings block the process. Check System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General to make sure the installer has permission to write to the necessary directories.

Sidechain not working

ChannelStrip includes sidechain functions on the compressor and gate. If the sidechain isn't triggering, the most common cause is a routing problem inside the DAW. Make sure the sidechain source track is routed to the correct ChannelStrip input, not to the track's main input. Different DAWs label this differently — some call it "sidechain input," others "key input."

Thump doesn't seem to add low end

Metric Halo Thump does harmonic synthesis, not simple EQ boosting. If you're expecting a sub-bass shelf, you'll be disappointed. Thump adds harmonics based on the existing signal, so if the source has little to no low-frequency content to work with, there's nothing to synthesize. Try feeding it a track with some low-end material — a kick, a bass, or even a synth pad — and blend to taste.

Precision De-Esser sounds harsh

The de-esser can sound aggressive if the threshold is set too low. Start with a higher threshold and reduce it until you hear the sibilance soften, then back off a hair. Also check the frequency band — different vocalists have sibilance at different frequencies, and the de-esser's fixed band might not be at the right spot for your track. If it's still harsh, try inserting it after the compressor rather than before.
